The Prospect Area has been placed under a Flood Warning near the Scioto River from this afternoon until Monday afternoon (or until the warning has been cancelled by the NWS). At 5:00 am this morning, the flood stage was 8.9 feet, flood stage for the Scioto River is at 9.0 feet. We are expected to rise above the flood stage by this afternoon and rise to near 10.2 feet by Saturday evening and receding by Monday morning.
At the 10.0 foot mark, Highway 203 north of Prospect along the Scioto is inaccessible. We would like to remind resident of the National Weather Services’ slogan of “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters.
Below we have attached a video to simulate the dangers of flooding.
